Pro-environment: Australia’s Minister Gago tours coastal towns

Environment and Conservation Minister Gail Gago toured some Eyre Peninsula coastal towns last week on the eve of community consultation about the release of South Australian marine park boundaries. The South Australian Government is creating 19 marine parks in state waters by 2010.

Microsoft warns of new attacks

Microsoft is warning users of a newly reported attack on one of its ActiveX browser components.

The company said that it had received reports of a limited number of targeted attacks on a flaw in ActiveX control for Snapshot Viewer, a browser plug-in for Microsoft Office Access 2000, 2002 and 2003. The vulnerable control is not present in Office Access 2007.

Typhoon Frank Live in the Philippines! One Night Only (we hope)

MANILA, Philippines (AP) -- A powerful typhoon that weakened into a tropical storm blew Tuesday toward Japan, leaving at least 12 people dead in the Philippines, officials said.

- So is Frank's international name Mitag? The typhoon was weakened perhaps by egg offerings to Sta. Clara but it still continued to wreak havoc upon the rice-producing provinces of Luzon. I hoped the storm was too early for the plantings, or else rice hoarders will have a newer reason to drive Filipinos crazier.

University of Florida Professor Designs Plasma-Propelled Flying Saucer

Flying saucers may soon be more fact than mere science fiction.

University of Florida mechanical and aerospace engineering associate professor Subrata Roy has submitted a patent application for a circular, spinning aircraft design reminiscent of the spaceships seen in countless Hollywood films. Roy, however, calls his design a ?wingless electromagnetic air vehicle,? or WEAV.

The U.S. Air Force and NASA have expressed interest in the aircraft, he said.
