
From “Light up my life” to “Baby light my fire.”
Director Joseph Brooks, the Oscar-winning composer of “You Light Up My Life”, has been accused of raping 11 women who auditioned for roles in a movie in his New York City apartment.
Brooks, 71, allegedly lured the victims though online advertisements to his apartment in Manhattan where he served them wine and either forced or threatened them to have sex with him. He pleaded not guilty in Manhattan’s state Supreme Court where he was arraigned on a 91-count indictment for rape, criminal sexual act, sexual abuse, and assaul.
Brooks, who the Oscar for Best Original Song for the 1977 ballad “You Light Up My Life,” faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted of first-degree rape. [read more]
