Philippine military sending long-haired, tattooed troops vs Muslim rebels?

They “look like… drug addicts and not soldiers,” a rebel commander complained.

It looks like the Philippine military has unleashed a secret weapon in its war Muslims fighting for an independent state in the country’s southern island of Mindanao.

The Moro Islamic Liberation Front, which has been fighting the government to establish an Islamic state in Mindanao, complained that its forces had been attacked by Philippine military units who had long hair and tattoos.

The MILF questioned the appearance of hundreds of soldiers with long hair and several tattoos in their bodies, saying they “look like fugitives if not drug addicts and not soldiers”, television network GMA-7 reported.

These rogue-looking Philippine forces have emerged as the Philippine government warned that an anti-Muslim vigilante group called the “Ilaga” was reported to be re-organizing Christian civilians to fight the Muslims.

The Ilaga vigilantes warned that they will ‘execute’ 10 Muslims rebels for every civilian they kill.

Christian cities and towns have recently been attacked by an MILF “lost command” (rogue unit) led by a Commander Bravo, resulting in the death of soldiers and civilians and burning of homes and commercial establishments.

The attacks came after the Philippine government decided to terminate an agreement with the MILF for an independent Muslim region in Mindanao.
