Moses was on psychedelic drugs when he heard God deliver the Ten Commandments and was probably also on drugs when he saw the “burning bush.” And when he went down Mount Sinai to talk to the Israelites, they believed him because they, too, were stoned.
This was the suggestion made by Benny Shanon, a professor of cognitive psychology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, in an article in the Time and Mind journal of philosophy. Shanon said that such mind-altering substances formed an integral part of the religious rites of Israelites in biblical times.
Interviewed on Israeli radio, he said:
As far Moses on Mount Sinai is concerned, it was either a supernatural cosmic event, which I don’t believe, or a legend, which I don’t believe either, or finally, and this is very probable, an event that joined Moses and the people of Israel under the effect of narcotics.
How does Shanon know how it felt to be high?
He admitted being a former druggie. He used ayahuasca, a powerful psychotropic plant, during a religious ceremony in Brazil’s Amazon forest in 1991 during which, he said:
I experienced visions that had spiritual-religious connotations.
He said the psychedelic effects of ayahuasca were similar to those produced by concoctions based on bark of the acacia tree, that is frequently mentioned in the Bible.

The Holy Bible is the infallible Word of God, and it is God-breathe. And as a true believer of God, I believe that eveything written in the Bible is true and beyond doubt—is what really transpired a couple of thousand years ago during the time of Creation up to the time of Jesus and the Pentecost. I would share what the renowned atheist Berthardt Russel said, “unless you assume a god, all else would be meaningless.” “Faith comes fom hearing, and hearing the word of God.” And in silence, we can actually hear God’s voice telling us, that everything matters not, unless you believe in Him, and love Him with all of your strength, Heart, Mind and soul! Whatever Prof. Shanon says or believe, it will not negate the reality and the truth that is in God’s Word..
