Manny Pacquiao vs. Barrera II: Who will win by knockout?

Manny Pacquiao vs. Barrera III
Will Manny Pacquiao knock out Marco Antonio Barrera? Or will Barrera win by unanimous decision? What are the odds? Who has the better training?

Joaquin Henson: Pacquiao should finish off Barrera in six.
Veteran sportscaster Joaquin Henson says “Pacquiao should finish off Barrera in six” and there are 10 reasons why Barrera can’t and won’t beat Manny Pacquiao in their “Will To Win” rematch. He says:

Because Pacquiao is left-handed, Barrera has to move a little closer to throw his right – a dangerous proposition. Barrera’s chances hinge on whether he can dictate the tempo from long distance. Pacquiao’s footspeed will block Barrera’s escape routes and cut the ring off, making it difficult for the Mexican to fight on his toes. [read more]

Barrera’s last big fight
Dan Rafael of ESPN Sports says “the end is near …very near” for Barrera.

Although Barrera has vowed to win his rematch with Pacquiao (44-3-2, 35 KOs) Saturday night (HBO PPV, 9 ET) at Mandalay Bay, he says it will be the last big fight of his career, and perhaps his final fight period. For more than a year, Barrera (63-5, 42 KOs) has talked openly about retiring at the end of 2007. [read more]

Barrera’s only chance for victory
Bob Canobbio of BoxingScene says, in this article on Fox Sports:

Barrera’s only chance for victory is to control the fight with his jab and slow the pace of the fight like Marquez did vs. Manny, but that’s not likely. Manny’s a better fighter now than he was vs. Marquez, which means he’s better now than he was for the first Barrera fight. Hard to imagine him fighting a better fight than he did the first time around. Manny at 80% should be enough to defeat Barrera this time around. That being said, Manny could put an end to the Hall of Fame career of Barrera, a five-time champion in three different weight classes.

Politics, gambling, love affairs: Pacquiao is distracted
Mike Lynch of the Sweet Science says “Manny Pacquiao is spreading himself way too thin.”

Pacquiao’s overwhelming popularity in the Philippines made it difficult for Roach to train Pacman in private. Roach noted that he was wary of all of the distractions and pleaded with the fans to stay away from training sessions for Manny’s sake. In the wake of it all, he claimed to be happy with Manny’s progress. He was confident that Pacman was well prepared for the fight. They would continue training at Wild Card before heading to Las Vegas for the fight. [read more]

LA Times reports that as Pacquiao “prepares to face Barrera, trainer Roach has dealt with distractions including moving camp to Philippines, a chaotic gym environment and reports of marital, gambling problem.”

Roach had to unexpectedly uproot his training base from Hollywood to the Philippines because Pacquiao reported problems with his wife. Upon arrival in the islands, there were reports that the charismatic boxer — considered one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the world — had been gambling too much.[read more]
