Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad arrives in US

Just in: Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has arrived in New York to address the U.N. General Assembly tomorrow, Sept. 25. Just as he arrived, protesters have camped at the Columbia University where he’s to attend the question-and-answer World Leaders Forum.

In an interview that aired on CBS’ “60 Minutes,” he denied Tehran is building a nuclear bomb or has plans to go to war against the U.S. He said the nuclear weapon has outlived its usefulness.

Columbia University said it won’t cancel Ahmadinejad’s speech despite uproar.

Blog Reactions

RightWingNews - You want to bring in an anti-American, terrorist supporting, holocaust denying, anti-Semite who’s planning a new Holocaust to speak?

AllSpinZone - I think the guy is a dangerous fruitcake. The fact that he’s a holocaust denier (and sponsored a conference of like-thinking anti-Israel opinion leaders from around the world, including David Duke) tells you everything you need to know.

BlueCrabBoulevard - That is one of the real dangers of inviting Ahmadinejad - giving him legitimacy at a particularly bad time to do so.

The Wandering Donkey - I don’t like Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad any more than the next person but why is there such a problem with him speaking at the UN and Columbia University?

Faithfully Liberal - I have no desire to defend the Iranian leader, but I do think that we should examine our own motivations. Much of the disorder in the region is a result of our own misplaced actions in Iraq.

Online Jenny - What can we do though? I believe if we hadn’t let him in, we would’ve gotten a lot more outrage from our own people because banning him would be “un-American”.

Did any of us learn anything we didn’t already know? We have always known that he is a radical, lying, blowhard! Did the students at Columbia learn from his non-answers to questions. One great thing came of this “discussion” and that was the opening statement of Columbia’s president
