Tilapia skin can now be used to make leather. And it won’t smell fishy.
In Thailand, a new kind of leather has been introduced in this year’s Bangkok fashion festival: a new kind of leather made from fish skin.
One of the attractions was a colorful fish-skin waterproof bikini that sells for 75 US dollars.
Says 30-year-old Sudarat Sae-Lim, who volunteered to model the fish skin bikini:
“It’s comfortable, especially inside. The bikini can really breathe. It’s a bit strange because it’s new and it’s not elasticised. I like the fact that it`s waterproof which means it can dry more easily.”
Tilapia skin is the favorite among dish skin leather makers as it is most durable. They can be used for shoes, clothes and sporting goods.
