Eight crimes against women (CAW) were monitored from the Philippines today, all from the People’s Journal alone and in one day alone.
Story No. 1 has a rather controversial headline: ” Victim, 16, gets addicted to rape!” It tells the story of a young girl who returned to the home of her alleged rapist, and they allegedly became lovers. Her mother files rape charges.
The story’s headline may court the ire of women’s right groups, but no reaction so far. [Read story]
Story No. 2 tells of a Korean journalist allegedly raped by a Korean businessman in a Makati hotel. The victim, a student at the University of the Philippines, was looking for a home to rent and met the suspect on the Internet. [Read Story]
Story No. 3 headlined “11-anyos hinalay ng taxi driver” reports about a taxi driver raping a young Sampaguita (flower) street vendor. [Read Story]
Story No. 4 reports that a 23 year old woman filed a complaint against a Pasay City policeman for allegedly mashing her while being body-searched inside her home during a police search for a robbery suspect. [Read Story]
Story No. 5 also reports a molestation. It says “a man landed in jail for allegedly mashing the breasts of his neighbor in retaliation for her alleged arrogance and refusal to sell him liquor in Malabon City. ” [Read Story]
Story No. 6 is a homicide case in Caloocan City. Headlined “‘Playboy’ hubby slays jealous wife,” it reports the killing of a wife following a big fight over the suspect’s alleged womanizing activities.
In Story No. 7, 18-year-old suspected Peeping Tom was arrested while masturbating as he witnessed a 32-year-old woman taking a bath in Marikina City. [Read story]
On a positive light, the Peoples Journal reports in Story No. 8 that the primary suspect in the rape and killing of 7-year-old Geraldine Palma has surrendered to police. Geraldine’s body was found inside a suitcase that was spotted floating on the Manila Bay last August 6.[Read Story]
