Stop making babies!
The Philippine General Hospital can’t take it no more. The country already is suffering from a dry spell, and yet too many babies are being made.
The state-run hospital has announced it wil turn away pregnant women who come in to pop out their babies, for the simple and yet serious reason that there’s no more space.
The PGH nursery was built only to accommodate 45 infants, and it now has 90 — or an overcapacity of 100 percent!
PGH spokesperson Dr. Michael Tee tells the Philippine Star:
“What we want to happen is for those mothers who are about to give birth to look for other hospitals. As much as we want to serve more people, our capacity is limited. If we admit more than what we can handle, the quality of care may suffer. We don’t want that to happen.”
Poor women have to look elsewhere to give birth. Only 30 minutes away on Taft Avenue is the Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital in Sta Cruz, Manila. Fabella is also known as Asia’s largest baby factory, with 20 percent of babies in Metro Manila being born there.
