Monitored in Reuters: Nigerian pupils browse porn on donated laptops
ABUJA, July 19 (Reuters Life!) - Nigerian schoolchildren who received laptops from a U.S. aid organisation have used them to explore pornographic sites on the Internet, the official News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported on Thursday.
The notebook computers were donated by the One Laptop Per Child aid organization. A spokesperson said the laptops will now be “fitted with filters.”
The laptops, called the OLPC Children’s Machine XO, were developed by Nicholas Negroponte, brother of former US Ambassador to Manila John Negroponte.
OLPCNews, an unofficial site, in an article One Pornographic Image Per Nigerian Child says:
Of course, the worst kept secret for any telecenter or cybercafe is what happens when you mix Internet access and young men: porn.
This is the modern version of Pinoy kids in the 80’s bringing dad’s Playboy magazine to the classroom.

First!! bayaan muna sila normal lang yan!
yes first na namn! yahoooo! dot com! hahaha!
mga bro… kailangan muna natin ituro sa mga bata ang tama at ang basic morality in life. paglaki nila kung maging mabuti man sila o maging masama ay alam natin na hindi tayo nagkulang sa pagpapalaki sa kanila.we did our part of being a parents and that’s how it works. kailangan we set our example kahit alam natin na tayong mga magulang ay malibog din at ugaling manyakis ,we don’t want to teach our children a wrong doing. let them discover what is life and how to enjoy w/out offending others.
very well said, kapatid. let them discover life, at the right age.
SARAP SIGURONG KUMANTOT NG NIGERIAN wahehehehe
nigers!
ang ganda naman ng laptop na gmit nila…pang-bata talaga…
What’s the point of this news? So they’re just discovering what’s in the internet. By the time they’re 6 to 13 years old, they’re married already. So if you think about it, there are no children in Africa. It’s from babies to married life already, heh.
I love the laptops, by the way. They’re specially made for that program, they’re built to last in heat and work without batteries (they work like an old alarm clock where you twist something at the back).
