Former Philippine police officer Michael Ray Aquino begged for mercy from a US judge on his day of judgement on espionage charges, and was sentenced to six years in prison.

Aquino, who fled the Philippines after the downfall of jailed ex-President Joseph Estrada, had been detained for two years and will serve the remaining four years before being deported to the Philippines.
Aquino was charged with receiving classified documents stolen by co-accused, former Federal Bureau of Investigation agent, Filipino-American Leandro Aragoncillo. The documents contained information gathered by US intelligence on the Philippines.
Aquino then passed on the information to former Philippine National Police, now Senator Panfilo Lacson, and Estrada. Other recipients included former Speaker Arnulfo Fuentebella, who admitted receiving email from Aragoncillo, Sen. Aquilino Pimentel, and Estrada’s
sons Sen. Jinggoy and San Juan Mayor JV Ejercito.
