One of the Philippines’ top volleyball players was killed when gunmen barged into a house in Dasmarinas, Cavite in a brazen robbery last June 4.
Killed was Ronie Borlagdatan, 22, a 6-foot-2 volleyball player who was drafted into the national team last April. He was to play for the first time wearing the national colors in the Southeast Asian Games in December.
National volleyball team coach Odjie Mamon described Borlagdatan as the “most promising among the players.” He was also described as a tough competitor who has previously represented the Philippines in amateur events.
Reports said Borlagdatan was with six friends at the house of one Leo Balesa in Villa Catalina Subdivision in Barangay San Agustin, when armed men barged in and demanded cellphones and jewelry at around 1:30 am Monday.
The robbers started shooting when Borlagdatan’s group tried to resist. Two in the group — Christopher Quine, 23, and the house owner Leo Balesa — were instantly killed while Borladgatan died at the Dela Salle Medical Hospital-Dasmariñas from a bullet wound to the head.
Four others were injured. They were identified as Aina Luceno, Mark Louis Rentoy, Ralph Hayag and Julius Villena.
The suspect fled and the police is now doing a manhunt.

siguro kung alam lang ng mga robbers kung sino si Ronie baka hindi nila gagawin yun.naku wala na yata tayong magawa dyan sa mga buaya sa goberno dahil kahit bitayin man yan sila eh yong mga anak nila na nakakain na ng mga kinukorakot ng mga magulang nila sigurado mangongorakot din yon pag naka upo sa goberno dahil nasa dugo na nila yon parabang addic.isipin mo mula presidente hanggang baranggay kaptain at konsihal at mga pulis at mga general eh ang dami. pray nalang tayo sa taas sana magbago na sila.
