The PinoySpy Population Control Council (POPCC) yesterday launched a new movement called Filipinos Against Short Time and Econo Rooms - Pilipino Laban Shortaym (FASTER-PLS) to lead a campaign against teenage pregnancy and immorality being promoted by quickie motels in the Philippines.
The FASTER-PLS campaign was launched in time for Valentine’s Day when short-time rooms are expected to be in demand.
Shortime refers to a 3-hour stay at a motel and is popular in the Philippines among budget-conscious lovers seeking a private place do to a quickie.
The cheapest short-time stay are offered in so-called “econo rooms.”
Some of these short-time motels are even located near schools, such as those outside the Polytechnic University of the Philippines in Sta. Mesa, Manila.
FASTER-PLS coordinator Jethro Tumbaga aka “Spy Lolo” said these short-time econo-rooms encourage teenage sex and illicit affairs, and thus contribute to the population growth of the Philippines.
Spy Lolo said these short-time should be abolished because it defeats the purpose of motels which is to provide temporary shelter to travellers. Motel is a shortened term for “mobile hotel.”
“Short-time is evil because it promotes quickie sex and these motels are the breeding ground of sex scandals,” Spy Lolo said.
Spy Lolo proposed that these “econo rooms” should be converted to low-cost housing for poor residents of Balintawak, Cubao, Sta. Mesa and Pasay City.
“The government should offer financial assistance to homeless families who will rent these econo-rooms on a monthly basis,” he said.
Spy Lolo said in the next general assembly of FASTER-PLS, a PinoySpy architect will unveil the blueprint for converting econo-rooms to low-cost housing units.
“Basically, we have to start putting kitchens in these econo-rooms,” Spy Lolo said.
