A growing mob of Manny Pacquiao fans from Paclandia swooped down on a 19-year-old blogger’s website starting yesterday, after a PinoySpy news report on her blog post calling Pacquiao a “monkey” was reposted on a popular Manny Pacquiao forum.
The number of comments on the blog post at Mysteryosa.org have reached more than 200 as of this writing, the latest of them containing hate speech and threats from Manny Pacquiao fans.
Some of them started to demand a public apology from the blogger known only as Shari, a UP Diliman student, even threatening her by posting her home address and phone number.
“We just want your apology…. and we will leave this (your) site gracefully… and promise not to be back again…”
…said one visitor in a comment on her blog.
Another asked too much, saying the blogger should personally apologize on the forum of www.mannypacquiao.ph. Some of the comments have gone too personal and below the belt, however, and they have “photoshopped” pictures taken from her Friendster account to ridicule her.
Shari, in a comment posted below the PinoySpy story said:
I never said it’s Manny’s fault. Ginagamit lang naman siya ng mga pulitiko. But I don’t like him, and I don’t think that my feeling towards him should be held against me.
She said “this is being sensationalized into something that it shouldn’t be.”
Mysteryosa’s blog post started to catch wide public attention when the PinoySpy tabloid published a headline story titled “Filipina blogger calls Manny Pacquiao a monkey.” The headline story has been reposted in some Manny Pacquiao fan forums.
Shari was featured in the Philippine Daily Inquirer Blog Addicts section on June 2005, where she talked about her blogging experience.
Shari’s friends, mostly from the college circles, have come her defense, saying she was entitled to her opinion and she was free to post anything on her blog.
Even a Manny Pacquiao fan, aymnatskerd, believed that the blogger was entitled to her own space and that some hot heads were just over-reacting. He says in a forum post:
Guys your reacting too much. She’s just a kid who thinks, like many others, that freedom in the internet has no limit. She just posted it for no reason, I suppose, except blab her mouth coz she feels like doing so and it’s free and blogging have no rules. It’s just that the subject she’s into is someone close to the heart of Paclanders.
Meanwhile, the newly formed fans club Pacquiao United Kabarkada, Inc. (PUKI) yesterday appealed on Manny Pacquiao fans to calm down and be level headed.
PUKI president Ambroso Patilla, in an exclusive interview with PinoySpy Tabloid, said:
“Manny Pacquiao should unite the nation and not divide it. Nananawagan ako sa aking mga Kapuki, patin na rin sa mga Kapamilya at Kapuso na tayo ay magkaisa at itigil na itong away na ito.”
The PUKI leader said his fellow Manny Pacquiao fans should respect the blogger’s space, as she was entitled to her own opinion. He said those circulating pictures of Shari to mock her were behaving like monkeys.
“Walang below the belt, please,” he said.

No. Why should Shari need to apologize for her opinion? It’s an opinion! And Manny, knowing his popularity, should know how to deal with stuffs like his “haters”. He can’t please everybody. No one can, anyway.
Hey, hey. That IS ASSUMING. I have nothing against you but claiming things like that is not nice. Even if Shari is not my friend, I think she deserve some respect as well. She is, after all, just blogging about her opinion. Everyone does that, you know. I respect her for that fact that she’s very open to her opinions. It’s not to be ashamed of. What’s to be ashamed of is that you can’t even say what you wanted to say and you get pushed around like some trash.
