Filipina blogger calls Manny Pacquiao a ‘monkey’

While the whole Filipino nation is hailing Manny Pacquiao as a new hero and even Manila Mayor Lito Atienza has announced that the city will erect a Manny Pacquiao statue to honor the boxing champion after his destruction of Erik Morales, a 19-year-old Filipina blogger said the Pacman does not deserve such adulation.

She called him a “monkey.”

Reacting to the news report about the Manny Pacquiao statue on Baywalk, she says on her blog, Mysteryosa.org:

Does winning a boxing match enough for someone the likes of Pacquiao to achieve national hero status? Is it even fair to forget the other athletes who have offered their lives to make us proud and instead focus on this one monkey who throws mean punches every now and then?

The Mysteryosa blogger, who only identified herself as Shari, currently a BA Journalism student in UP Diliman, has gained a lot of supporters to her anti-boxing view, and among the comments posted on her blog questioned Atienza’s motive in riding on Pacquiao’s popularity.

Said another comment:

A statue of a boxer? That is just crazy. They are basically encouraging violence, not preventing it.

BREAKING NEWS:
PinoySpy Tabloid was informed by the blogger at PinoyStupid (see his comment below) that he, and not Mysteryosa, was the first to call Manny Pacquiao a monkey, in an article titled “Pacquiao. Champion of the monkeys.” Although the PinoyStupid blogger did not directly call Manny Pacquiao a monkey, his title insinuated that his fans are apes.

He said:

Hey, I called him a monkey first. Him and his fans. LOL.

With this latest development, the public is now confused who called Manny Pacquiao a “monkey” first? That distinction is now being disputed between Mysteryosa and PinoyStupid blogger, and the PinoySpy Tabloid, being a non-partisan in this issue, will settle the dispute between the two bloggers.

monkey-boxer.jpgAtienza last Thursday announced that the city government will erect a statue of Pacquiao on Baywalk, a popular park along Roxas Boulevard facing the Manila Bay, to immortalize his contribution to Philippine sports.

“It’s about time that we honor this man who once again brought honor, pride and inspiration to our nation,” Atienza said.

Atienza said a national artist would be commissioned to create the statue, which would be bigger-than-life size.

When erected, the Manny Pacquiao statue will share the limelight on the Baywalk with statues of former Manila Mayor Arsenio Lacson, former Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr., former Antique Governor Evelio Javier, and a five-piece bronze sculpture depicting the Filipino family.

But the Mysteryosa blog said “boxing is a violent sport, a bloody one, and we’re actually hailing Pacquiao for sharing the instinct serial killers posses.”

Reactions:

To Shari, wag ka munang mag-aasawa. You have a bright future.

obviously the little girl doesnt know or realize what is it in boxing that moves people. hehehe. boxing is vivid personification of life’s struggles and sacrifice. it is more than the violence and punching. you have to see beyond that and see the dedication, single mindedness and strength in these guys. manny pacquaio easily shows us how to be those.

PinoyStupid, this news report has been updated with your comment (See BREAKING NEWS subhead). It’s not yet settled who really called Manny Pacquiao a monkey first, whether it’s you or Mysteryosa. The editorial board of the PinoySpy Tabloid will discuss this matter to decide who was first. A certificate will be issued to the winner, signed by SpyLolo.

I’m giving all the props to Pinoy Stupid for calling Money, este, Manny Pacquiao a monkey first. He deserves all the credit.

SpyLolo: I never said it’s Manny’s fault. Ginagamit lang naman siya ng mga pulitiko. But I don’t like him, and I don’t think that my feeling towards him should be held against me. :) At wala akong balak mag-asawa. LOL.

what about: “manny pacquiao is the antichrist?”

seriously, although it’s fun to rain on manny’s parade, giving national hero status and erecting a statue to honor him is not really “bizzare” and worthy of sincere hatred. hong kong has a pretty decent statue of bruce lee, for instance.

I agree that it’s not even his fault that some mayor wants to built him a statue. You may never know if that “building of statue” has other hidden motives behind it as well. Politics are always like that, by anything politicians do, hidden motives are always with it. ;)

I was never a Pacquiao fan first and foremost and also I don’t think he deserves the national status either. Even so, at least give him some slack. Not that I am defending Pacquiao or anything, but I think he does deserve even just the populariy (again, hero status not included) he has now. Imagine how much a punch hurts and he’s not only getting one. He travels to different places too, just to get hit by another boxer. His deeds might not be doing anything beneficial for our country, but he at least gives people hope. Or so some people think he gives them hope. After all, there’s not even a person in this country did anything benificial for her (country) anyway.

Why is it that Filipinos always have to assert that they can? INSECURITY? YES!

PogiAkasi, he is ugly and he looks like a monkey. And I don’t think it’s absolutely imperative to lie.

To everyone who is hallucinating, believing that Pacquiao fought for his country, I have to introduce to you the concept of a national athlete. Whatever he does and however many fights he wins, PACQUIAO is not a national athlete. There is no Philippine Boxing Team. Go to PSC and ask them if boxing is included in the events roster. That should put a stop to all your hallucinations.

Tsk-tsk…

Talk about crab/crap mentality. Kaya di umangat-angat itong bansa natin eh.

So what kung sa tingin nyo ay mayabang si Pacman? EH di ba si Muhammad Ali kaya naging Champ eh he psyched himself up that he is the best?

PogiAkasi, he is ugly and he looks like a monkey. And I don’t think it’s absolutely imperative to lie.

Beauty just skin deep and if you dig deeper and you uncover one’s character you’ll realize that some people may put themselves on a pedestal and call other people monkeys, but in reality they are far worse than that monkey’s crap… tsk-tsk…

The fact na may Philippine flag na sumusunod sa kanya pag pumupunta sya sa ring symbolizes that he represents the Philippines. Kahit na anong ba larangan yan, kahit na ba world cyber games yan or World battle of the bands, ang importante ung mga kasali dun ay hindi itinatago ang fact na pilipino sila and that they are proud of being one.

Crab mentality has nothing to do with it. It is true that Pacman deserves to be rewarded for his efforts, but to the point that he is being elevated to national hero status. One word for it : PATHETIC. So he won 3 times against Morales. What about the soldiers who are killed in the line of duty? The journalists that are assassinated for the dirt that they know about the government? Or the OFWs that are slaving away in other countries so that they can support their families? Don’t they deserve to be rewarded as well as Pacman?

It is crab mentality you just don’t know it, cause it is part of your self since birth. But don’t worry hereditary to, could be one of your parent’s gene is from the maharlika blood of Makapili. In regards to the soldiers killed, they are heroes you just don’t visit them in Libingan ng mga Bayani, and they are also paid by the government, scholarship for their children. What about the journalist, assasinated by government ? broad topic, highly debatable. Manny Pacquiao is history and you can’t erase that … it would be 100000 people who are proud of him against 1 filipino crab like you. LOL

It is rude & uncalled for to call Manny a monkey (or any person for that matter). The man is a boxer fighting for money and I would imagine he has some pride in is nation. To be a good athelete does not make one worthy of a statue. In fact, the Philippine government has a law against statues paid for by national funds for an person still alive. It is legal for a city to do so but I must ask why that money is not spent to supply drinking water & to clean up the trash instead. People need to get a sense of perspective and take care of necessities before spending money on things like statues for rich people. I have not heard one time that Manny has done anything for the people by building some school or supplying school books or food to the general poor. I admire him as a boxer but he has done nothing for the country with all his money, something people seem to ignore. Hopefully he will not be elected to office since he is, apparently, not smart enough to know how many contracts to sign at one time. Imagine the problems if he actually had decision making powers that affected other peoples lives! Yes, I am not a Filipino, but I am married to a Filipina and wish to help the counry recover from the mess it is in. I care about people who have little & need food & water for daily use.

Some filipinos are losers, they bring other people down because they feel jealous of others acheivments. What a shame.

Please be intellegent. Thats why I hate many Filipino’s. Manny “Monkey” Pacqiao is not a god. Theres no reason for anyone to kiss his ass. Not unless his/she’s an idiot. Many Filipino’s(mostly the intellectual one’s) know and see this. You cant see that because of ignorance. He won fine. Im proud of you Manny. But please ITS TOO Much!!! madame pang ibang bagay na magaling ang pinoy. WAKE UP FELLOW CITIZENS!!!! I love you Shari thanks for saying. ITs what we need to here right now.

whatever…its so hard to visualize what filipino minds are thinking…sometimes i mean most of the times we’re exagerating opinions and ideas and we,re good in predicting undone..it’s always hard for us to appreciate and bow our heads once in a while for the sake of patriotism..why consider manny a god?are you blind?is that the right words to say?the victory of manny not just mean “fine” for most filipinos that believes in the ability of filipinos..i’m one!!!!atleast kmi gising ikaw nakaidlip ka ata paggising mo nakisawsaw ka na lng sa isyu…lets be fair to manny…he deserves what he have now!!!
karapatan nya nmn magyabang o kahit ano pa gusto nya gawin ang mahalaga masaya sya..tama lng nmn na maenjoy nya pinaghirapan nya…bavooooooo…………

The Filipinos are proud of him because he is world-famous? Well there’s no trace of his name on newspapers nor his face on the news here in Australia.

how many Australian newspapers did you check out? did you check out all? if so, if you did not read him in ANY NEWSPAPER in AUSTRALIA, he is not world-famous? what is world-famous? a world without australia is no world at all? which part of australia are you? is the world really less a world without australia? does the world revolve around australia?

why are you in australia,in the first place? i suppose you are (or: you WERE) a Filipino too. Why pick on a Filipino doing well in his craft by sheer effort, dedication and sacrifice? Literally with his BLOOD, TEARS, SWEAT and all! Ah, by your standards - a Filipino doing well isn’t really ‘good’ kasi di mo na-basa sa any Australian newspaper (if you read aloud - with an Aussie twang, mate!).

I’d suppose you left the country for a good reason - the good being specific to YOURSELF or your IMMEDIATE family. Is there anything really heroic in your ‘flight from the country’and fight your personal battles somewhere - and you think you have earned the right to do Filipino bashing? Hmmmm

[...] I have long ago thrown away the memory of the incident that made me a “controversial blogger” because of my callousness and disregard for other people’s feelingsStill, it isn’t my fault that a certain online tabloid sensationalized the blog entry and made it sound twisted. But it has nothing to do with the issue at hand: Pacman wants to become a politician. I’m impressed. Not. [...]

i think it was harsh to say that manny is a monkey. i really think that phrase is way down below the belt. if this mysterious filipina blogger wants to express her disagreement about making a “paquio statue”, she could have just expressed it in a way that she is not insulting anybody.
