And the Girl Scouts of the Philippines is not happy.
In a letter GSP national president Susan R. Locsin told Boy Scouts of the Philippines president, Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay:
“Mr. President, the girls register with us because they want to be girl scouts and not boy scouts.”

Cebu City Vice Mayor Michael Rama, a member of the board of the BSP Cebu Council, also does not agree that the Boy Scouts would now be accepting girls. He said:
How can you become a boy scout if you are girl?

Democracy speaks atlast
Hello, I am a member of the Ten Outstanding Boy Scouts of the Philippines Association, and as a scout, i believe that it is high time that we accept girls into the movement. In the spirit of the gender equality, i believe that as scouts which seek for what is right this is indeed acceptable. it does not matter if you are a boy or a girl, what matters is that you are a scout and you live the scouting spirit. Besides, in the scouting movement, most of the scoutmasters are women, so why shouldn’t we accept women inside the boyscouting movement? It is high time that we give due recognition to the women who made the movement more powerful in the first place. If the only contention present in here is the name of the boy scouts which has the word boy, then don’t worry, there’s also a move to change the BSP’s name into Scouts Philippines. It is already being implemented anyways through the BSP’s uniforms notice that what is written in the buttons is Scouts Philippines and no longer BSP.
If the Girl Scouts of the Philippines is having a big problem with regards to girls joining the Boys in their scouting program, then maybe it’s their institutions problem. They don’t have programs which promote quality scouting and the scouting way of life. What they have is just a shop which sells merit badges to the girls in green uniforms, from these merit badges the girls earn their ranks. They have just made the innocent girls their milking cows. Notice how many properties in terms of lands offices and buildings the Girls Scouts of the Philippines have. If they have a problem with girls joining the boys, maybe they should asses their programs a little more. No offense GSP but you really should look at your programs, don’t just sell merit badges.
Besides, In other scouting institutions of countries such as australia, and america. They have accepted girls a long time ago.
I agree what Max Aficial said about the programs that the GSP have. I am a Girl Scout myself, and I have observed for quite some time now that the programs are not proficient enough to train the Girl Scouts. Even earning the merit badges doesn’t take that much effort or no effort at all. For me, earning the merit badges is NOT fulfilling and gratifying and that alone is not satisfactory!
I truly wish that the GSP would focus on programs that will truly enrich the performance of the Girl Scouts. Maybe they should give more attention to skills enhancement, upholding the girl scout laws, community service, develop leadership potentials and soooo much more that they can work on. With that, maybe the girls will think twice about joining the BSP.
i would like to comment on the statements mentioned by Mr. Max Aficial who he says is a member of the ‘outstanding’ boy scouts of the philippines association. so mr. aficial, have you looked closely at the programs of the GSP? and have you compared them with that of the BSP? how can you tell us to look closely at our programs? i doubt very much your agenda in trying to recruit girls into your organization because as it is, this country has already a separate organization for girl scouts, so why else would you be interested in recruiting girls??? don’t be a hypocrite and tell me it is not about money. didn’t you ever consider the consequences for such a thoughtless idea? haven’t you even thought about increased pregnancy or teenage marriages? just imagine, in a joint girl-boy scout organization, there will be joint camps, and have you ever thought about what will happen in the evenings when all your scout leaders are busy “drinking” or whatnot while the young scouts are left on their own? really, i wonder why the boy scouts organization will ever consider about getting girls. come on, don’t ever give us that baloney about other countries having girls in their organizations. we have survived many years being separate organizations, so why would you want to have a joint organization now? dwindling bsp funds, i suppose? and why are you looking at the gsp assets? is that why the bsp is so hot in having a joint organization, because of the gsp assets? it just so happened that the gsp is a better manager of all its finances, and it just so happened that we have a different way of managing our finances. maybe it’s about time the boy scout leaders learn from us girl scout leaders, rather than do things in a sneaky way. for as long as you do things in a very sneaky manner, the girl scouts will always be there to thwart your sneaky intentions.
I am a girl. I was so happy that I get to join the National Boy Scouts Jamboree last 2003 at Gabao. Sorsogon. I was registered as PCGA. It was a fun and fulfilling experience, although I got confused if I would be accepted in the group because I’m a girl. I like their activities. They were much more adventurous and they test my capacity as a girl. And I am so proud that I did. I like the Jamborees’ activities than the girly stuff that was so boring like making handicrafts. I’m sorry but I felt the GSP’s activities were boring from making handicrafts and etc., I felt like the activities were undermining my gender, like because I’m a girl I should stick on stuffs like that (It is not that i don’t like GSP Scouting but when I have been part of the BSP camps until 2004-well that was so wonderful!). I really wanted to explore the mountains and soar high enjoying activities that the males and female were doing the same. I think that was the essence of unity in our country. It should not be separating both sexes and do different stuff that organizations would prevent from letting one type of sex only join. How can we bond the country? Are we a country of females alone? Or males? It is like discrimination… That girls should stick on to what is being a girl. Thus defining roles that were very obsolete and very traditional. It is time for change. That’s why I support changing the name of the org and letting it be combined by both sexes. I hope I could still be able to join the Scouting since they only stick to letting girls of ages 13-17 only join. I am already 18 and I have been a part of BSP as PCGA but I could not join it anymore.. How I wish that my identity as a scout was not erased through the years since the National Jamboree this year was a memorable one. I hope I could still join it please!!!!
i don’t agree with it. we have GSP and BSP…so if BSP will accept girls, what’s the essence of having GSP? besides, how can u be a boy scout if u r a girl?! u should be a girl scout
I don’t know too much about this org. but i’m a boy.Yeah it’s really a big question mark “?” why this org. is recruiting girls?Well, for me to say if this is a better idea or not.If you like to join in this org. as you as a girl, THERE MUST BE CONDITIONS on many things about everyday leaving and everyday style. If you’re problem is the nightlife, well if it’s not required that girls should not be on the camp well you know what to do.But if it’s needed, we can have keys right.I’m sure that if there are “good boys with bad intentions”,well think it over,”are they all the same?”.We can separate but can join together. It’s not the mean that you come, but your organization to this organization if it’s better that way.Isn’t it?We can have better move if we help each other, not judge by it’s cover.
i think bsp should change its name to philippine scouts instead of using bsp…i mean, isn’t that unfair to its female members? if ur a girl and a member of bsp, isn’t it odd to be called a boy scout?
Good intentions, bad intentions! Or whatever it may be.. I don’t find anything trivial about the matter. What I really think is that both parties are all sooo wrong. BSP is wrong for suddenly accepting girls when there still exists another organization built specific for that purpose. And I think that GSP is also wrong for being so negative about joining the two sexes, well didn’t we all originate from Adam and Eve from the land of eden. You see I believe that to solve this problem we should start from the roots. Why not restructure both organizations and form a merger, then we could rename both organizations into (JSP) JOINT SCOUTS of the PHILIPPINES. Or are those sitting on top just afraid of settling who then would be running the show?? well i guess that would be a good question but I guess since were all good brothers and sisters you’d be able to resolve that matter on your own. or won’t you… hehe guess that’d be all
how’z bout (PNS)PHILIPPINE NATIONAL SCOUTS. or (NSP) NATIONAL SCOUTS OF THE PHILIPPINES.
i didn’t know that this issue was still alive up to the late 2009’s? well, as it seem, it has worked very well for BSP. Girls have been joining the BSP for a few years now and some have even achieved the highest rank of the BSP. And so far so good, no news yet of the so called “problems” that the GSP were talking about, in fact based on experience, most scouts see each other as brothers and sisters, yes there are those cases of “crushes” or even courting, but non of those “problems” that they are SO worried about. There are conditions to girls in the BSP units/Outfits(basic unit of the senior scouts where girls are allowed) so there is really minimal chances of having “problems” even less that what can happen outside scouting. I hope that the GSP can get over themselves about this. My sister and niece were once members of the GSP and all i ever heard about was how lame the activities were and how they wanted to join my activities as a member of the BSP. Lastly, i think the GSP should not get mad at the BSP, because if they trace their history, they might be surprised to know that they did not really originate from Josefa Llanes Escoda, they came from the same person responsible for the Scouting movement, Lord Baden-Powell, through the Boy Scouts of the Philippines, Josefa learned about the scouting movement which lead to her founding the GSP. ^^
hello i’m eaglescoutmarvie ramos from paranaque council. I think there’s no problem in accepting girls in our organization because it is a right for a women to choose a organization she wanted to.
GSP is insecure with it because of this issue.Female BSP gets the balance opportunity in scouting like becoming also an eagle scout which is the highest rank in scouting.
Hope to resolve the issue with the GSP and BSP.
Please pray
