Congressman Mark Foley (Republican, Florida) has resigned over a controversy on an AOL instant message exchange with a 16-year-old girl who used to work as a congressional page. Ironically, Foley was the chairman of the house caucus on missing and exploited children and has long crusaded for tough laws against those who use the Internet for sexual exploitation of children, according to ABC News.
Foley, using the AOL Instant Messenger screen name Maf54, allegedly wrote:
“Did you have fun at your conference…what do you want for your birthday coming up…what stuff do you like to do.”
ABC News has an excerpt of another exchange between “Maf54″ and a male page:
Maf54: Do I make you a little horny ?
Teen: A little.
Maf54: Cool.
